biography

christin maho grew up in switzerland.
during her studies as an elementary teacher christin took classical vocal lessons at the conservatoire in berne. after her graduation as a teacher she studied vocals at the swiss jazz school berne attending classes with sandy patton and denise bregnard where she expanded her knowledge in vocal jazz and improvisation.

ensuing studies in new york with sheila jordan (new school university) christin dedicated herself to vocal improvisation (scatting). 

with richard harper (new school university) and the vocal educationalist kate baker, christin refined her vocal techniques (non classical), articulation, interpretation and stage appearance.

important musical and artistical impulses christin received in masterclasses with maria rondèl (musical and belting techniques), niranjan jhaveri (indian jazz vocal techniques), eva-marie haupt (voice therapy in theory and practice) as well as with wael sami elkholy (egypt) arabic vocal techniques, improvisation and embellishment.

in 2013 christin moved for half a year to israel, where she studied oriental music, 1/4 tone scales (maqqamat), vocal improvisation and embellishment (mawwal) with roni ishran and orna zakai. in addition she also studied hebrew.

with christian hadorn, accordionist living in berne, the fine duo “deux fois c” arose in 2008, an ode to the french chanson played with a flavour of jazz.

christin’s repertoire includes, besides the great american songbook and the jazz standards also works like duke ellington’s “sacred concert”, christoph schönherr’s “jazz-magnificat”, karl jenkin's "stabat mater" (oriental solo part) as well as gospels, spirituals and french chansons.

for a few years christin maho has also been frequently on theatre stages as an actress.
in the play “jede für sich” maxim gorki/edited by r.stalder as melanie, in “vorgeschter u hüt” scenes from molière’s “misanthropist” she played the role of marina.
christin was rebecca in henrik ibsen’s rosmersholm “wyssi ross”, and she sang the role of iduna from paul burkhard’s play “der schwarze hecht – oh my papa”. in 2011/2012 christin sang the role of lacrimosa from ferdinand raimund's play "es bsungersch meitschi", original titel "der bauer als millionaer" (the farmer as a millionaire).

apart from her varied vocal projects and vocal studies christin maho is a lecturer for non classical voice at the hkb / bua (bern university of arts) department of music (music and movement) and teaching vocals at the music school in thun.
since 2013 christin is a lecturer in the cas "singing voice", since 2016 as well in the cas "pop voice" and in the propaedeutic course for music and movement at the hkb.

she is a member of evta.ch (european voice teachers association).
